What I Love About Working In Audio: Rebecca Collins - Casting Coordinator
As part of Love Audio Week we've asked some of our team here at Whole Story Audiobooks to tell us what they love about audiobooks, and what they enjoy most about working in the industry.
Casting Coordinator Rebecca Collins on what she loves most about working in audio...
Why do you like audio as a format?
It’s how storytelling used to be and is the perfect medium for modern-day living. Being so easily accessible but still allowing you to continue daily tasks means that there’s no excuse to not take some time away from reality, even for ten minutes, to escape into your favourite stories.
What do you do in a typical day?
I usually start the day meeting and greeting visiting narrators before settling down to run through emails. I receive new book titles and manuscripts every day that need to be cast for recording. I source suitable voices for the book and put them forward for approval from our editors and publishers.
I also assist with our quality assurance processes – I receive audiobooks at various stages of production, listen to them and ensure that they’re proof read and edited before submitting to retailers for publication.
What do you love about working in audio?
Audio is incredibly engaging, and the talented narrators that I’m lucky to work with have a library of voices and accents that bring every character to life in a way that reading in your head can’t match. No two days are the same and hearing the end-product after all the weeks of work is extremely rewarding.
